The 777 Challenge!

I was tagged by Teri Thackston along with six other authors. My challenge is to go to page 7 of my current work in progress and post seven lines. When I’m done posting, I get to tag seven other authors to do the same and tag 7 more authors.

Shades of Deception Blurb:

Tessa Marshall wanted a quiet weekend getaway to Mexico with friends. Her vacation turns terrifying when she’s dragged out of her car in the middle of the night. She wakes up to find herself bound on the floor of a cartel safe-house, having to account for her part in a double-cross.

Kris spent years building contacts within Mexico’s underworld. Days before a meeting with cartels leaders he finds Tessa, a woman that captivated him in a chance encounter, about to face the consequences of a failed escape. He claims her for himself, but whether she’s an innocent bystander or the master mind behind the theft of millions in cartel merchandise remains to be seen.

In the final hours of the end game, Kris must choose his loyalties. Are they with the cartel, with Tessa, or with himself?

And now for the excerpt from Shades of Deception:

Tessa shifted with the utmost care, ready to discover a broken bone somewhere in her battered body. Even that would be preferable to ending up beside a lonely road in Monterrey, dead.

Brake lights shone bright and fuzzy along the highway above. Hopefully, Heather’s new friends, the ones she wanted to follow to “just one more club”, would call for help.

Why had she let Heather take the keys? She should’ve ignored her whining and driven to the hotel.

Headlights illuminated the car’s interior.

Watch for Shades of Deception late Summer 2012.

And now to tag 7 other authors. Be sure to check out their blogs!

Sahara Roberts caught the writing bug early in life. She enjoys writing Romantic Suspense and Contemporary Romance. Her days are filled with international trade issues (the legal kind) and her evenings writing steamy romance set against the backdrop of deadly Mexican Cartels. Sahara lives in South Texas with her husband, who she lovingly refers to as Brat. She enjoys cooking, baking, and cake decorating, but she would certainly prefer to have someone else do the dishes. She's currently working on book 4 in the Dangerous Desires series and the first book in a contemporary romance series. For Tessa & Kris's story, read book 1, Desire and Deception. For Monica and Andres's story, read book 2, Secrets and Seduction. For Celeste & Rio's story, read book 3, Temptation and Treachery.

  1. I love this! What a wonderful choice of excerpt and a fantastic challenge!

  2. Fun Tag! I’ll play! Look for my post tomorrow! It’ll be from my upcoming book RIDE-ALONG, the fourth book in my Badge Bunnies Series!

    • Fourth book already! Darn. Need to finish edits so I can hit the TBR file. 😉
      Thanks for playing.

      • LOL! I didn’t know you were reading the series! Thanks so much! So flattered! I’m already starting on the fifth one!

        • EEEEE!!! I got hooked on your books when I came across the cover to Good Cop, Bad Girl. Got a friend hooked on Karleigh. She’s already read the sequel while I still have it on the TBR file. “sigh”

          • Blushing here! You’re good for my ego, girl! LOL!

I’m so glad you’re enoying the books! You’re friend, too! I think you’ll love the sequel to Karleigh’s Cowboys! Let me know when you read it! Oh, and I’m coming out with another cowboys series, after this volume of Badge Bunnies, so be sure to check it out!

  3. Great excerpt! Okay, I’m not allowed to post from my WIP (because it’s the sequel to my debut), but I can post from an older story that I want to revamp. I’ll do it this weekend. 🙂
